SP 3.x with IdP 2.x?

Hi all,

we’re new to setting up a shibboleth SP, but everything on our side works fine against testshib.org. Our university environment, however, appears to still be running 2.x on their IdP while we have 3.x installed on the SP.  I couldn’t find any guidance in the wiki, but is this setup destined to fail? Or should our 3.x SP negotiate seamlessly with a 2.x IdP?
