I would be astounded to the point of speechlessness to find out that they have any client code doing ECP. Their ECP usage is a server-side mail proxy that just matches what they do for ADFS with WS-Trust. There is no ECP in their clients, the mail clients all just do password traffic to the Exchange server. And as such there is no reason that would be specific to a Mac. Whoever told you this is likely clueless but it's easy to tell, just see what the client address is at the IdP.
