MetadataProvider sortKey and MDUI

The epitaph here turned out to be a little interesting.  There was a cached
copy of metadata from an HTTP file resolver that was failing to connect to
the remote server which had a third copy of the same entity in it.  The
campus was working under the assumption that it was totally offline.

The rest is less interesting.  I botched my confirmation test.  It was
late, the keyboard was wet, a dog had chewed on the metadata...
