Duo Alternatives?

Like others in this list I’ve also been using LinOTP, in my case is in production since years without a glitch (most of the time) and supporting several types of soft and hard tokens (Yubikey, Feitian and google authenticator in HTOTP) with several thousands of tokens/users.

Regarding the topology, for the LinOTP backend we are using 4 instances of PostgreSQL+ BDR (bi-directional replication) geographically distributed in 2 datacenters. 

For the failover we use :

- VRRP to fail-over within each DC ( Keepalived can also do load-balancing, but we don’t need/use it for now)

- Cloudflare/Akamai to do fail-over between the IDP instances in the 2 Datacenters. Each IDP talks to the LinOTP VRRP that are “locally” reachable 

An additional bonus you have with linotp is that they also provide a pam module (source and binaries for most distributions) that you can very quickly install and use to enforce 2FA on several Linux distributions. We use it to enforce 2FA with sudo.

I assume you can achieve the same with privacyIDEA as it’s a fork of linotp
