Is InCommon one of those? If so, you may be loading the other
federations redundantly since InCommon imports from eduGAIN. In fact,
there are 2382 IdPs in InCommon metadata?

Assuming InCommon is one of those seven federations, you are loading
(and verifying) many megabytes of metadata. Yes, that can be very time
consuming.
