It's not the feature loss per se. We all know OIDC is coming (good or bad, doesn't matter). Do we want to have to change application code? We all know that's a non-starter for campus apps.
The SP is designed principally so you can replace it (this is why I'm not rich). The others are designed to effectively preclude their replacement, some deliberately, but most simply through a lack of understanding or interest.
I know we've dockerized Apache + the SP here at OSU, I could link you up with them if you want, but I suspect it's not a case if not grasping that approach.
