shibboleth.net is pretty sizeable, but hardly mammoth, and it takes a minute or just under to verify the signature on that file (based on today's refresh).

So, I guess the upshot is, Windows is terrible. Film at 11.

I would not want to soft pedal the urgency but it does explain why I wasn't expecting the result.
