Thanks for the clarity.  I have really enjoyed working with velocity over the years, but as you say, it looks like Spring intends to EOL support for it in Spring v5, which prompted my question.  Thanks again for the time.

Probably to some degree out of necessity, we're aware there's a spat between Spring and Velocity over it. Velocity is basically "mature" but Spring is taking that as sign that it's dead and using it as an excuse to punt responsibility for the ViewResolver code to them, and of course that's stupid since that's a Spring requirement and belongs in Spring.

In other words, I'm on Velocity's side of this, but that doesn't help us. We would probably have to take over the ViewResolver code, and probably will for compatibility, but moving to, I guess, FreeMarker, seems likely at some point.

The general model of "keep it out of the warfile" is definitely not something I'm giving up.
