I believe the documentation does that as well as it is ever likely to without making assumptions we could never make for the whole set of users. We recommend Jetty now and we provide detailed examples of how to configure it (and that will continue to improve), and the rest is just IdP configuration documentation independent of most of the rest of the issues, all of which is organized by topic area.

Having decided to use a non-recommended container, we provide what little we have on Tomcat 8 setup in the wiki as well. Since we no longer recommend it, we expect the community using Tomcat will contribute to that page to expand it.

That is obsolete documentation, and all of the extra complexity describing Apache use and other scenarios one could choose to deploy with are no longer part of our material. It's not relevant. If you choose to use more than plain Java/container alone, you would be expected to know how to do that, and it isn't related to the IdP specifically.
Once we get all the old SP documentation out of that space, we'll be able to slam a more global "do not read" warning on all that material, but that's not going to happen overnight.
