That was our problem. We made our own SP and I was using the idp-metadata.xml from the IDP without changing anything. I just changed the metadata that the SP is using to use the one that InCommon is using (which is vetted, populated, signed and has a validUntil constraint in it). That was my issue. I was using the default idp-metadata.xml supplied by the IDP file instead of using the appropriate one.
