Rare ELException

Hi all,

occasionally we get the following exception when being redirected to the 
IdP for authentication:

2017-04-18 12:05:59,833 - ERROR [net.shibboleth.idp.authn:-2] - Uncaught 
runtime exception
org.springframework.binding.expression.EvaluationException: An 
ELException occurred getting the value for expression 
'authenticationContext.setAttemptedFlow(thisFlow)' on context [class 
org.springframework.webflow.engine.impl.RequestControlContextImpl]
         at 
org.springframework.binding.expression.spel.SpringELExpression.getValue(SpringELExpression.java:92)
Caused by: org.springframework.expression.spel.SpelEvaluationException: 
EL1011E:(pos 22): Method call: Attempted to call method 
setAttemptedFlow(net.shibboleth.idp.authn.AuthenticationFlowDescriptor) 
on null context object
         at 
org.springframework.expression.spel.ast.MethodReference.throwIfNotNullSafe(MethodReference.java:144)
2017-04-18 12:05:59,834 - WARN 
[org.opensaml.profile.action.impl.LogEvent:105] - A non-proceed event 
occurred while processing the request: RuntimeException

This is happening very rarely, maybe twice a week. I am unable to 
reproduce this error, it just seems to happen every once in a while; 
therefore I am a bit hesitant to raise the loglevel.

Any help on why this might happen and what it actually means would be 
much appreciated.
