Some comments :

I wouldn't know where exactly in the flows to add the
FlowExecutionListener, so it would end up being added 'everywhere'.

The Spring Framework may provide a way to detect "long" requests,
maybe someone else knows ...

The IdP/Servlet container has to be restarted to affect changes to
that layer of Spring Web Flow (system/webflow-config.xml).

The timeout for the Spring Web Flow conversation manager defaults to
30s, but it looks like that can be adjusted via the
idp.webflow.timeout property.
