The last line of the table in the documentation mentions how to access dependent attributes. The way to understand the syntax is to look at the Javadoc for IdPAttribute.

The understanding of Velocity is assumed like with any technology we choose to use and if you don't know it, you would need to read their documentation to learn it. Velocity is used throughout the IdP.
