old certificate

Hello,

Our Idp3's Apache certificate will expire soon. Also Shibboleth's signing
and encryption certificates will expire. We tested Shibboleth with old
certificates. There were expired certificate in Idp and  SP's metadata.
Apache had new one. Everything worked.
Can I trust this test? Will Shibboleth work with old certificates in the
near future?
