IdPv3 CAS Debugging

I am setting up the built-in CAS service in IdPv3 and need to see what the CAS response is that's being sent back to the CAS client.
I tried setting idp.loglevel.messages  to DEBUG in conf/logback.xml:

    <variable name="idp.loglevel.messages" value="DEBUG" />

but I didn't notice any difference in the output.

I am sure I am missing something, so any guidance is appreciated!  (This is the first time I am setting up a shibboleth IdP as well as the built-in CAS service, so please bear with me if this information is in the documentation and I just missed it!)
