I tend to take fairly strong positions on any campus-wide or visible system. That's when I have leverage. For really small cases, there's no leverage because they'll just issue accounts and move on if I refuse to do the work. At that point, I gain political capital for throwing a few lines in an XML file and management thinking I'm some kind of wizard.
