I've always just used the JNDI properties, dating back to V2. At the time, we just didn't want to start creating custom properties for an endless set of JNDI features, it seemed better to leave it. Maybe timeouts are the one reasonable exception.

I do think we should have those in the default example though, either way. Timeouts are the most important setting in a networked software system.
