The software works. otherwise thousands wouldn't be using it.
So you could to that but it wouldn't prove anything wrt your Amazon
deployment, unless you can emulate their environment exactly, IMO.

If you still want to go ahead: You can define any host name in your
hosts file[*], it does not need to resolve in DNS. That makes
interactions more pleasant than using IP addresses and maybe less
confusing than using localhost.

TLS is not a requirement either, so it all should just work, if
configured correctly.
