No, it's a really messy combination in webflow. Spring expressions are reasonably well documented and you can generally tell what you're allowed to do, but Webflow is very badly documented, and uses a lot of implicit behavior where things are "automatically Spring expressions" in some places and "not automatically" in others so you have to put #{} around the code.

I've done more with flow logic lately, but we stuck mainly to Java code and just signaled events in most of the older code.
