MemcachedStorageService memcached version requirement

The StorageConfiguration wiki page:

   https://wiki.shibboleth.net/confluence/display/IDP30/StorageConfiguration

says that memcached version 1.4.14 or later is required.

Where does this requirement originate?  I'm using Debian Wheezy on my IDP, 
which has a packaged version of memcached 1.4.13.  I can't find anything 
obvious in the v1.4.14 release notes to indicate why that version would be 
required over v1.4.13.
