Then you shouldn't be using the Browser SSO profile, that's a fairly explicit piece of advice I can give you.
Contrary to Scott's assumption, I think ECP and PAOS is in fact what you should be using. If your client is not a browser, you MUST use ECP.
Artifact does not support non-browser clients.
Also, what I asked was *scope*. Under what conditions do you want to use artifact? Not why, but when. The scope determines which config changes and approaches are easiest.
But this is moot based on the above. A client that can't do POST isn't a browser and such a client must use ECP.
