custom authentication

I am using a web application (non-shibboleth but SAML based service
provider). It is using shiboleth IdP to achieve SSO. The webapplication
redirects to the IdP to for login. User enters the credentials in the IdP
login page. After successfully establishing SSO with IdP, I am closing the
browser completely and hence the web application. When the webapplication is
launched again, then again IdP login page is shown. The Idp session is
configured to 30Minutes and before the IdP timeout login from webapplciation
is performed again. I was expecting that IdP would be maintaining the active
session. Could you please let me know why is the IdP showing the login page
again?
