You can send anything to anybody called anything, but "can" and "should" are different things. I would imagine Dropbox probably needs the value to be an actual email address, so if your EPPNs work for that, then sure.
But personally I refuse to populate attributes conditionally. I'll create new attributes and force SPs to consume them before I'll start doing that.
