Test IdP

I am being chased to make Google Apps work with our v3 server, but our IdP gets regular use and my boss' boss is asking if we can bring the downtime window (currently 3 days away) forward.
I can get the VM cloned easily enough, and hopefully the reverse proxy rules that expose it externally, but if it's just for google apps can I get away without registering it as a test IdP with any federation for now? And just give it a new hostname / entityID (the UKF moved the old v2 entityID to new metadata and the v3 IdP is using it).
Thanks,
Dave
