Shibboleth with ImageNow

I have exhausted my options so I'm reaching out to the general shib
community, and hoping for some feedback from current (or past) ImageNow
users (highered or industry) who have implemented SHIB for WebNow
authentication.

I got everything working with Shib auth for WebNow, but it only works in
IE. I can tell that shib authenticates the user within other browsers, but
when it goes to start up the Java Applet (WebNow) it throws java errors and
ends up not loading. If I pass in the REMOTE_USER as a header (without
defining that it is populated via a SHIB call) it will SSO in with no
issues. It's only if I define the location as protected by SHIB that WebNow
blows up in Firefox. Again, it works perfectly (with no errors) in IE
(which pains me at great length - because I'm use to IE not working for
anything).
