Signing Auth Request

I'm crafting a custom SP metadata using the included metagen script, but
can't find a flag to indicate that SP requests will be signed. Do I have to
manually edit the metadata to include AuthnRequestsSigned="1" or modify the
script for this purposes?

On a related question, how does shibd create it's SP metadata? If it uses a
similar script where can I find it?
Is the shibd generated metadata created on demand when the sp metadata URL
is requested or it's created and stored somewhere. If it's stored where can
I find it?
