Shibboleth 3 static image serving problem

Please forgive me if this is off-topic or an unbearable newbie question:

I'm having an issue where after our Shibboleth 3 IdP installation runs perfectly for a few weeks, it will then stop serving up images on the login page. Authentication continues to work, but for images, all I get is the alt text, and any attempt to directly load them via their URLs results in a 404.

No errors appear in the jetty or shibboleth logs that I've found so far. Bouncing jetty resolves the issue. I haven't turned up the logging level yet, as I'm hoping I've done something stupid in the configuration that some kind soul here will clue me in to.
