When you actually verbalize what it's doing, it makes me suspect there's a bug because of the gap of potentially having an expired record in there blocking the insert, so I would have to take a look at what it's actually doing. Please file a bug.

If it's not actually deadlocking, that's not likely to be a database problem with a race condition and a lack of appropriate locking.

Unless logout is used, there's also no reason to let it maintain that secondary index.
