So long as your AuthnRequest is well formed absolutely.  

As far as SAML goes IdP3.x is as compatible or more so than IdP2.x  (which means very, very, far more than any other SAML implementation).

There is even a way to make it bug for bug compatible in an edge case where IdPV2 got it wrong.
