Noob stuck at installation procedure of IDP 3

If you are using the velocity templates this should not be necessary.  As I recall you just change a property restart the container.

By editing ldap.properties and starting?

That means that you had a "failFast" event.  Look at Tomcats logs.  There should be something in there.
