Authentication is one of the areas that has changed between V2 and V3.
There is considerable scope to select different technologies and to choose
the “best” method.

Subject: idp v3.1: defaultAuthN method for default RP?

What is an appropriate way to define a default authentication method for a
default relying party configuration? I can see each profile has a list
inside the RP, but I don’t see anything for the RP itself.

Attempting to translate this in v2:

<DefaultRelyingParty provider="xyz"

                         defaultSigningCredentialRef="IdPCredential"

defaultAuthenticationMethod="urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:ac:classes:Password
ProtectedTransport">
