That's basically what you can expect, every release you have to tweak things. It won't change just because this particular issue gets fixed, unless you want to constrain your upgrade schedule to somebody else's who's maintaining the plugin. Basically, I don't advise SSO with their products unless you're prepared to debug and maintain code.

If you're willing to forgo group manipulation, then they tend to work more consistently, but the group APIs are completely unstable.
