You'd be better going for the latest distribution in

it looks like idp-distribution-3.1-20150302.080943-7.tar.gz is what you
want.

Unpack it an update just as you would a release (with the usual caveats
about it *not* being a full release)

To reiterate what has been said elsewhere, it is always safe to install
later versions on top of earlier versions, even within the same version
stream (so you could pick up last Fridays and upgrade to it, and then last
nights and upgrade to it).  We put a lot of effort into making this just
work (and I know that at certain stages people were updating their test
machines nightly)
