I'm not aware of any such option, as it's considered very poor practice.

That post doesn't discuss anything that the EDS would be doing by itself. If you're using the Shibboleth SP, then it discusses one possible way of shortcircuiting the EDS step using the Cookie SessionInitiator. The same could achieved in application code as well of course.
