Peter,David:
          Thanks for the help.
          It’s a login configuration  issue.
          IdP expects “Username Password”, SP is asking for “RemoteUser”.
          It is not a new IdP. The IdP works for Educause,atomiclearning,voicethread, and other products.

If this is a new IDP it's probably misconfigured...

Or, of course, it really was the case that user authN at the IdP was not successful as
stated in the error:  "Error from identity provider:...AuthnFailed"
