The password flow/form could signal the second custom flow to run, and then you could redirect away from that flow to your separate piece and then back in. That would be easier than trying to resume the password flow and do the right thing if you weren't modifying the password flow.

Generally when people say that, a year later the email comes in asking how to deal with the fact that that assumption just changed.
