For v2, you're right.  Hadn't thought of that.  But for LDAP: it's also
in the ldaptive that we use for v3.  So that's probably the biggest
concern, I would think. People on v3 + Java 8.

We need to verify whether it actually trips the bug, preparing to send
a bit more on that in a sec...
