Those of you using desktop SSO (on campus) to login to shibboleth

Has anyone tried doing this with IdP v3? We are planning to go v3 but at the same time want to build in features such as desktop SSO and get it behind ForeFront which is how most web servers are being published externally now (we've successfully had an SP running behind that so have some experience).

Crucially, will the Kerberos stuff be any easier if we deploy v3 on Windows (likely Server 2008 R2, which is what most of our servers are now - though we have got some Server 2012 installations).
