Shib 3.0.0 on Windows - need to explictly point to jvm?

Shibboleth 3.0.0.10

Windows Server 2012 R2

java version "1.8.0_25"

JAVA_HOME=C:\Program Files\Java (pointing to JDK)

Shibboleth installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Shibboleth via installer
(install Jetty checked)

After a more or less vanilla Windows Shibboleth 3.0.0 installation, I found
the "Shibboleth 3 IdP Daemon" wouldn't start.

Setting the "Java Virtual Machine" to "C:\Program
Files\Java\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll and unchecking the "Use default" on the
Java tab of shibd_idpw.exe allowed it to start.

Is this a bug or might I be doing something that makes me ineligible for a
check in the "Use default" box?
