Proxy between the IDP and SP

The Shib SP is behind the proxy, OK. Unless the proxy is /on/ the IDP,
how is that proxying "between the IDP and the SP"? Only the subject's
HTTP User Agent accesses the SP (though the proxy) and the IDP.
