Yep... I just followed the instructions and stopped Tomcat from scanning all of the jar files - I suppose I could have done it one by one, only omitting those it "burped" on, but was impatient.

I didn't try configuring a JarScanner in the context fragment, I'll have to see if that works.
The scanning isn't to prevent a jar from being used, it's to locate Servlet 3.0 annotations and the like.
