Attribute Release troubleshooting

First, my apologies for asking what I assume to be a *very* basic question.

bullet #5 states the following:


   - The attribute definition does not define an encoder appropriate for
   the given request protocol (e.g., the attribute definition has a SAML 1
   encoder but the current request is a SAML 2 request)


Is there a way to tell what encoding an attribute is being requested?

As the IdP administrator, how can you determine what SAML version the
attribute that you are releasing is encoded in and can it be changed?
