Shibboleth Service Provider - Need Help with Attribute Map

It doesn't make much sense to me either.
To copy directly from their help:
"The attribute statement field can be configured to map user values to SAML attributes. The SAMLResponse will be sent to the configured SP (Service Provider) endpoint.The format for the configuration isAttributeName|ValueAttributeName|Value|NamespaceIf no namespace is specified the default namespace used is: urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:attrname-format:unspecified"
"EXAMPLE USING A NAMESPACE:role|ENG|urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:attrname-format:uri"
I have a gap in my understanding between OKTA and Shibboleth I'm trying to bridge.

What?  That makes no sense.  role is not a URI.
