Win SP integration question

I’m assisting a vendor integrate their app to rely on Shibboleth authentication.
The application lives on our Windows server but it and the SP have been installed by the vendor.

The vendor reports the following error on requesting access:
“Server Error in ‘/‘ Application.
Shibboleth request header uakBannerID does not exist”

there is a stack trace:

Am I right in thinking this error message is from the vendor’s app, not the SP per se?

What portion of the SP configuration might trigger this error?
