How to implement Shibboleth on OTRS

Mona, although I have not setup OTRS for this it does have the HTTPBasicAuth option which uses the REMOTE_USER variable for SSO (http://doc.otrs.org/3.0/en/html/auth-backends.html). The Shibboleth SP can be used with this.

Just out of curiosity, I took a look at OTRS web site.  OTRS is written in
perl.   If you were using Shibboleth as the IdP, you would need to get a
SAML SP module written in perl, in order to have a SSO solution with Shib.
I don't believe Shib has a perl SP module available.  The patch you
indicated in your email (I think it may include a SAML SP module in perl),
was actually a solution with simpleSAMLPhP, not with Shibboleth.
simpleSAMLPhp was another SAML SSO implementation, but written in PhP.
Although both the Shib and simpleSAMLPhP are SAML compliant, they may have
different features.   You may want try to use simpleSAMLPhP instead.

Has anyone applied shibboleth on OTRS?
I have found patches on following link

number of errors including a loop at login page. Unfortunately I was not
sure if the patches themselves are correct. I would be very grateful if
anyone can guide me in this matter.
