Memcached does not automatically re-hash unless you configure it to (and
if you do, a whole host of cache consistency issues arise).  It will fail
the items hashed to the offline server.  The software using the memcached
client is supposed to gracefully handle failed cache reads and writes.
If you want graceful handling of node outages done for you in the server
and client then you want Couchbase.
