Well, it seems to me that it's a race condition that's maybe crashing
because of the earlier error on a different metadata source, but I'm just
guessing. I've never seen or experienced anything like this, so I don't
have any other insight. Maybe Brent will have some idea when he's around
again.

That however, is a screaming red flag. Use Oracle's JDK, or at least see
if you get the same results with it.
