Scoped attributes available to other definitions?

Baron,
I am new to Shibboleth. I am trying to figure out how to pass UPN (email)
attribute to O365 to login. 
I believe I need to use Mapped Attribute Definition.  But I am not sure the
syntax for this resolver.   What parameter do I need to put in
<ad:ReturnValue>$[hidden email]</ad:ReturnValue>?

  <ad:ValueMap> 
            <ad:ReturnValue>$[hidden email]</ad:ReturnValue> 
            <ad:SourceValue>(.+)</ad:SourceValue> 
        </ad:ValueMap> 

I also not sure how to use <Template>.  Do I need to use both Mapped
attribute, or can I just use <Template>?
