Is there any way to send 'Principal' to SP side without using Custom Dataconnector?

Hello All,
We are trying to integrate shibboleth with our application. We are using
'externalAuth' Authentication.
I went through the shibboleth saml wiki and configuration xml files. I read
that to release any attribute at SP side
one has to write dataconnector in the attribute-resolver.xml but i believe
there is way to get the 'Principal' at SP side
without dataconnector. Is this true?
If true how to do it? then Can we release any other simple or static
attributes along with the Principal to SP side.
