I probably still don't understand what you're after but the
implementation details are in the source code and maybe in the API
docs.

Not sure what this has to do with the IDP's internal workings (where
it stores information about authentication events) but did you look at
the SAML core document ("Assertions and Protocols")? That has details
and processing rules on assertions.

This would be easier if you just said what you needed and why (i.e.,
what for). OTOH, none of this seems to be about using the Shibboleth
software, so I suggest to post questions about the Shibboleth
implementation to the Shibboleth dev list, and questions or
clarification requests about SAML to <saml-dev at lists.oasis-open.org>.
